ISO 45001

Occupational Health & Safety (OHSMS)

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety (OHSMS) certification

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001:2018 is the international standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS). It has replaced OHSAS 18001.

By implementing the standard you can protect the health, safety and wellbeing of your employees, visitors and anyone affected by your organisation’s activities. It’s also an excellent way to establish legal compliance.

Putting an occupational health and safety management system in place is more important than ever. Senior managers are now held personally responsible for health and safety in their organisations. In addition, new sentencing guidelines introduced in 2016 have resulted in harsher punishment for failures. The standard provides protection for you, your employees and your organisation. It’s the best way of managing risk, avoiding fines and reducing employee absence. It all adds up to better business performance.

If you already have other management systems in place, then putting an additional one in place can be straightforward. The standard is based on the Annex SL framework, meaning it shares a common structure and many elements with the other major standards. So, it integrates seamlessly with other ISO management systems including ISO 9001ISO 14001, and ISO 27001.

Why choose ISO 45001?

The standard is suited to almost any organisation, of every size, in any sector.

If you take safety seriously – and the law requires that you do – then you can benefit from implementing this health and safety management system and securing Alcumus ISOQAR certification.

Being certified shows that you follow best international practices and can be trusted to do business with. This helps you to get on ‘preferred supplier’ lists. It’s often an essential requirement when tendering for new business, especially when bidding for work with larger organisations or the public sector.

How to get ISO 45001 certification

It's a simple 4-step process to achieve your ISO 45001 certification and start winning new business.

  • Preparation

Your Assessor will be in touch to help you get everything in place so that you're ready for your first assessment.

  • Stage 1 assessment

There’s no pressure for the first assessment; many are surprised what they already have in place. Following the assessment, you will receive a report (often referred to as a ‘gap analysis’) which highlights the steps you need to take to achieve your certification.

  • Stage 2 assessment

When you’re ready, our Assessor will conduct a second assessment and will share their findings on the day. Their report will be sent to our Compliance Department for sign-off (a key part of the UKAS-accredited requirements) and your certification will be issued shortly thereafter.

  • Annual assessment

The excellent reputation of ISO 22301 is driven by its requirement for ongoing improvement, so we'll keep in touch and arrange annual assessments to keep your certification up-to-date.
